Hooghly, 10 April (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that its candidate Biman Ghosh faced obstruction during campaigning in the Pursurah Assembly constituency of Hooghly district, leading to tension in the area.

According to sources, the incident took place on Friday in the Kelepara panchayat area, where Ghosh was campaigning. It is alleged that local panchayat deputy chief Srikanta Mallick, associated with the Trinamool Congress, arrived at the spot along with supporters and attempted to disrupt the campaign.

BJP workers reportedly resisted, which escalated tensions between the two groups and heated up the situation. Police from Pursurah station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

The BJP has lodged a complaint at the Pursurah police station, alleging that its workers were attacked during the campaign. The party also claimed that women workers were assaulted and their clothes were torn.

There has been no official response from the Trinamool Congress regarding the allegations.
