April 10 (HS): Police in Mathura disrupted an illegal IPL betting operation,
detaining around half a dozen people, including a local BJP official, on
Friday. The police detained Bankebihari, a local BJP official who ran this
illegal business from within a closed home, and five other people, seizing
almost Rs 1.6 lakh in cash, 11 mobile phones, three notebooks holding betting
data, and a laptop from them.
Circle
Officer (City) Ashna Chaudhary stated that during a combined operation
conducted by the Sadar police station team and the SOG, it was revealed that
thousands of rupees were being gambled on every single ball of the IPL matches
inside a locked home in Shivdham Colony.
During
the operation, the police discovered Bankebihari, a local BJP official, as well
as Adil, Rizwan, Kishore, Mukesh, and Bobby who were actively betting. Except
for Bobby, who is from Firozabad, the detained persons are all Mathura
residents, according to the officer. Police
are examining the scope of the network and have taken action against all of the
accused under various sections of the Public Gambling Act, she stated.
