Sribhumi (Assam), 10 April (HS): The Election Commission has ordered a fresh poll at a polling station in Assam’s Karimganj North assembly constituency after declaring the voting held on April 9 as void.
According to an official communication, the Commission, invoking provisions under Section 58(2)(A) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, annulled the poll conducted at Polling Station No. 239 — Babyland High English School — citing reports and material circumstances reviewed after the polling process.
The fresh poll has been scheduled for April 11 (Saturday), with voting to be held from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the same polling station, in line with the Commission’s prescribed guidelines.
Authorities have been directed to ensure wide publicity of the fresh poll in the affected area. Political parties and contesting candidates are also to be informed in writing about the re-poll.
The Commission further instructed Returning Officers to strictly adhere to the guidelines, while observers and district election officials have been asked to take note and act accordingly.------------
