Prayagraj,
April 10 (HS): On the call of the state leadership, under the joint aegis of
the City and District Congress Committees, Congress workers, angered by the use
of unparliamentary and indecent language by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa
Sarma against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and National Spokesperson
Pawan Khera, burned an effigy of Sarma at the district headquarters to express
their protest.
In
the afternoon, under the leadership of City President Fuzail Hashmi, Congress
workers reached the District Magistrate’s office raising slogans of “Narendra
Modi–Himanta Biswa Sarma Murdabad.” They demanded that a case be registered
against the Assam Chief Minister for abusing a Dalit, sedition, and for
spreading hatred between two communities. They said that Sarma’s nervousness is
now clearly visible, and the fear and restlessness of the ruling power is
evident due to the looming defeat. They added that the revelations made by
Congress have brought the truth to light, which is troubling those in power.
They
further stated that first the dignity of language was violated, and then
attempts were made to suppress the truth using police power. However, they
warned that the Chief Minister must remember that truth neither gets suppressed
nor bows down. A letter was also sent to the President demanding legal action
against Sarma’s wife over allegations of possessing three passports from the
UAE, Antigua Barbuda, and Egypt. They also said that if Sarma has any sense of
shame, he should clarify the allegations instead of filing FIRs against those
raising questions, that too in a state where he himself is the Chief Minister.
Among
those present were District President duo Ashfaq Ahmad and Ashok Patel,
Coordinator Harikesh Tripathi, Kishore Varshney, Tasleemuddin, Anoop Tripathi,
