
Guwahati, 10 April (HS): The Assam State School Education Board on Friday announced that boys outperformed girls in terms of pass percentage in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2026, despite girls outnumbering boys in both registration and appearance.
A total of 4,38,564 candidates had applied for the examination, including 2,48,325 girls and 1,90,239 boys. Out of these, 4,29,249 candidates appeared in the exam, comprising 2,42,781 girls and 1,86,468 boys.
In terms of performance, boys recorded a higher pass percentage of 67.78% compared to 63.96% among girls. The overall pass percentage in the HSLC 2026 examination stood at 65.62%. Altogether, 2,81,701 candidates successfully cleared the examination, including 1,26,398 boys and 1,55,303 girls.
Division-wise results showed that 44,861 girls secured the first division, while 40,328 boys achieved the same. In the second division, 83,608 girls and 66,559 boys passed, whereas 26,834 girls and 19,511 boys were placed in the third division.
The report also noted that 9,315 candidates remained absent during the examination. Additionally, results of 5 candidates were withheld and 135 candidates were expelled for using unfair means.
The HSLC examination is conducted annually and serves as a significant milestone in the academic journey of students across Assam.---------
