Guwahati, 10 April (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed strong confidence that the BJP-led alliance will secure more than 90 seats in the ongoing Assam Assembly elections, citing massive voter turnout and enthusiasm across the state.

Addressing the media at the BJP headquarters in Guwahati last night, the Chief Minister claimed that voters, including those in Hindu-majority as well as minority-dominated constituencies, participated in large numbers with “unprecedented enthusiasm.” He also alleged that people voted decisively to protect their identity in this election.

Sarma launched a sharp attack on Congress leaders, stating that Gaurav Gogoi would face tough electoral competition and questioning his commitment to Assam. He further criticized Gogoi over personal and political issues, alleging inconsistency in his public stance.

The Chief Minister also targeted senior Congress leader Pawan Khera, claiming that despite asserting his presence in Guwahati, he left the state early in the morning. He termed Congress a “cowardly party” and said its actions reflected weakness.

Highlighting his own campaign efforts, Sarma said he addressed more than 300 public meetings during the election campaign. He questioned the outreach of Congress leaders like Debabrata Saikia and Ripun Bora, asking why they did not campaign extensively outside their constituencies.-----------
