Kolkata, 01 April (H.S.): Amid the ongoing judicial scrutiny process in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress has written to Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Justice Sujoy Paul, urging that clear reasons be recorded for applications rejected under the “logical discrepancy” category.

In the letter, the party stated that the supplementary list containing the names of rejected applicants should also mention the specific grounds for rejection. This, it argued, would help affected individuals better understand the issues they need to address while filing appeals before the appellate tribunal.

The Trinamool Congress also requested that the notification for starting the offline appeal process be issued at the earliest so that affected persons can file their appeals within the stipulated time.

Additionally, the party suggested that appeals should not be limited to the offices of District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Officers, but should also be accepted at Block Development Officer (BDO) offices. According to the party, this would decentralise the appeal process and make it more accessible to a larger number of voters.

The letter further proposed that appellants should be allowed to present their case either personally or through authorised representatives. It also recommended that they be given the option of appearing before the tribunal either physically or through virtual hearings, along with timely communication of hearing dates.

The Trinamool Congress said that these measures would make the process more transparent and convenient for voters.
