Guwahati, 01 April (HS): Congress leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP, alleging that Sarma had joined the party following advice from a cleric in Dhaka.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday, Khera termed the Assam government a “Bunty-Babli government” and conducted a symbolic “lie detector test” on BJP’s promises, claiming repeated failures on key commitments including flood control, employment and healthcare.

He alleged that only 19% of people in Assam have stable salaried jobs, while urban unemployment has risen to 25%. Khera also compared deportation figures, stating that 88,792 illegal immigrants were expelled during the Manmohan Singh government, against only 2,566 under the BJP.

The Congress leader further raised concerns over alleged disproportionate rise in assets of relatives of BJP leaders and claimed worsening child health indicators in the state. He accused the government of failing to deliver on wage hikes for tea garden workers and infrastructure promises like hospitals.

Khera reiterated that Congress would implement measures to address illegal immigration and ensure accountability, while urging voters to reject what he described as “false promises” by the ruling party.-----------
