Howrah, 01 April (H.S.): Panic gripped parts of Howrah after an alleged firing incident was reported from the Golabari police station area on Tuesday night, the police said.

The incident took place in the Bibi Bagan locality under Golabari police station area. According to local sources, the firing allegedly followed a heated altercation among a few individuals who were reportedly in an inebriated state.

Allegedly, an argument broke out between three persons—identified as Akash Yadav, Vicky and Rahul—which escalated, leading to firing. However, no injuries have been reported in the incident, police sources said.

The police from Golabari police station, along with personnel from the detective department of Howrah City Police, rushed to the spot upon receiving information. The area was inspected and locals were questioned as part of the investigation.

The police said they are probing whether the incident was the result of a personal dispute or if there was any political angle involved.

Two persons have been detained in connection with the incident and are being questioned, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident comes close on the heels of a recent murder reported from the Pilkhana area under the same police station area, adding to concerns among residents.
