Kolkata, 07 March (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Parivartan Yatra is continuing across various parts of West Bengal and is reportedly receiving significant public participation in several districts. Party leaders claimed that people across the state are uniting against corruption, alleged misgovernance, and the policies of the ruling Trinamool Congress government, calling for political change.

Addressing a gathering in the Medinipur region, BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya sharply criticised the state government. He said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had once promised to end the atmosphere of fear that existed during the Left Front era, but today people in West Bengal are once again living under a sense of insecurity. Referring to a recent bomb blast incident in Paikpara, he questioned the law-and-order situation in the state.

Bhattacharya alleged that corruption in the state has reached such levels that money is being demanded even for college appointments. He said that while unemployed youth are in urgent need of jobs, the Trinamool Congress government is focusing on allowance-based politics rather than creating employment opportunities.

He also noted that Medinipur is the land of great personalities such as Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Matangini Hazra and Khudiram Bose, but under the present government, prospects for industrial development in the state appear to be diminishing.

Calling the Trinamool Congress a “rejected political force,” Bhattacharya said the party had come to power promising to restore democracy and create a fear-free society but has instead turned the state into a place where, he alleged, fundamental rights are being violated. He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in voter lists, claiming that verification processes had revealed cases where the age gap between a father and son was recorded as only 10 years.

He further referred to a controversial remark allegedly made by Trinamool leader Firhad Hakim regarding non-Muslims. Bhattacharya warned that if the Trinamool government was not removed from power, Bengalis might eventually become refugees in their own state. He also alleged that there were attempts to alter the demographic composition of Bengal.

At another programme in South Dinajpur district, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, MP Khagen Murmu, Kartik Pal and MLA Budhrai Tudu, along with other BJP leaders and workers, participated in the yatra. Majumdar said BJP workers were standing in the scorching heat to ensure the success of the campaign. In a sharp remark, he said that if it had been a Trinamool Congress programme, biryani packets would have been needed to keep the crowd together.

Majumdar said the BJP is committed to creating employment opportunities, strengthening healthcare infrastructure, and addressing emerging challenges in West Bengal. He added that government schemes are funded by taxpayers’ money and their benefits should reach all citizens equally.

He also criticised Mamata Banerjee’s ongoing sit-in protest, saying it appeared she was preparing to return to the role of Leader of the Opposition and might soon be known as “Dharna Didi.”

Majumdar announced that if the BJP forms the government in West Bengal, it would implement the 7th Pay Commission for police personnel, teachers, and other government employees. He also promised to fill all vacant government posts by December 2026 and establish a medical college in South Dinajpur within the next five years.

At a programme held in the Mangalkot Assembly constituency, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari accused the Trinamool Congress government of pushing the state towards decline through corruption and appeasement politics. He claimed that the BJP-led Central government had provided more than ₹10 lakh crore in financial assistance to West Bengal, significantly more than previous governments.

Adhikari alleged corruption even in welfare schemes such as the Annapurna scheme and claimed that cases of foodgrain smuggling to Bangladesh had surfaced. He further alleged that funds provided by the Centre for schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission and drinking water projects had been misused by the state government.

He said many farmers, Hindus, and tribal communities were being deprived of the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi because their names were not being forwarded to the Centre by the state government. He also described the Yuva Sathi scheme as another “scam,” alleging it was playing with the future of young people.

BJP leaders also announced that if the party comes to power, it will implement dearness allowance and the 7th Pay Commission within 45 days, conduct transparent Staff Selection Commission examinations every year, ensure fair recruitment to vacant posts, and grant a five-year age relaxation to candidates who lost opportunities due to recruitment scams.

They said the upcoming election would also be about the safety and dignity of women, adding that the BJP would ensure a secure environment for women and take strict action against criminals.

Meanwhile, the Parivartan Yatra also received enthusiastic support in the Srirampur Assembly constituency of the Howrah–Hooghly region, where Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw participated in a roadshow.

The BJP said that as the yatra continues to move through various districts and divisions of the state, public participation and support are steadily increasing. The party reiterated that the campaign reflects the people’s collective aspiration for development, employment, security, and the restoration of democratic values, and reaffirmed its commitment to building a “developed Bengal” where the rights and opportunities of every citizen are protected.
