05 March (HS): In a landmark development for the academic community, Professor
(Dr.) Jonathan A. Lal has officially assumed the prestigious office of
Vice-Chancellor of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and
Sciences (SHUATS) today. Professor Lal has had a highly impressive academic
career. Since becoming a professor on February 1, 2016, he has represented the
university nationally and internationally and has served in several important
positions in the University, including Director of IPC, Director of the
Auxiliary Unit, and Dean of the Jacob Institute of Biotechnology. Under his
leadership, the institute has reached new heights. He has been serving the
university continuously as Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) since July
2022.
Professor
(Dr ) Jonathan A. Lal is also an International Board Member of the
International Cancer Patient Coalition (ICPC) and Chair for the Asia-Pacific
Region of ICPC. Furthermore, he serves as Scientific Advisor at the European
Alliance for Personalised Medicine (EAPM). In addition, he is a Scientific
Advisor and Board Member of TubaScan Ltd. / Microbe & Lab B.V., a Dutch
biotech company. He previously served as a Visiting Professor at the Institute
for Public Health Genomics (IPHG), Maastricht University, Netherlands, and has
also been an editor of two prestigious academic journals.
Upon
assuming office, Professor Jonathan A. Lal expressed his heartfelt gratitude
and deep respect to the Founder Vice-Chancellor for his visionary leadership,
tireless efforts, and invaluable contribution in laying a strong foundation for
the university. He reiterated his commitment to establishing the university as
a global leader in innovation and modern agricultural education.
On
the occasion, the University’s Chancellor Dr. J.A. Oliver, outgoing founder
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Rajendra B. Lal, all Pro VCs, Registrar, Directors,
Deans, faculty members, and non-teaching staff were present and extended their
best wishes to the new Vice-Chancellor. On the same occasion, Prof.(Dr.) Ranu
Prasad also assumed office as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) of the
University.
