Haflong (Assam), 05 March (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed buildings of Vivekananda Vidyalaya and Saraswati Vidya Mandir at Boro Haflong in Dima Hasao district.
The building of Vivekananda Vidyalaya has been constructed with financial assistance from the North Eastern Council (NEC). Addressing the gathering, the Governor termed the occasion a significant step towards strengthening the academic environment of Haflong and other hill districts of the state.
He said that the development of modern educational infrastructure in remote and tribal-dominated regions reflects the commitment to expanding quality education and creating better opportunities for the younger generation. The initiative, he added, also highlights efforts to bring tribal communities into the mainstream through education.
Acharya also appreciated the role of Uttar Purvanchal Janjati Seva Samiti for its dedicated work in the region over the past several years, particularly in the areas of education, health and livelihood. He said institutions associated with Vidya Bharati are contributing to the promotion of value-based education while empowering local communities through knowledge.
The Governor further highlighted the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and said education should focus not only on knowledge and skills but also on character building, confidence and social responsibility.
Among those present on the occasion were First Lady of Assam Kumud Devi, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa, NC Hills Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa, NEC Member Longki Phangcho and several other dignitaries.---------
