

Imphal, 04 March (HS): Security agencies recovered approximately two kilograms of suspected opium during routine screening of consignments at Imphal International Airport, officials said on Wednesday.
The contraband was detected during cargo inspection and immediately seized. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to trace the origin of the consignment and identify individuals involved in its attempted transshipment.
In a separate operation, security forces apprehended an alleged extortionist identified as Achom Luwangba Meitei (44), a rebel from the PREPAK (PRO). He was arrested from Wangdei Meitei Leikai in the Langol area of Imphal West district.
During the arrest, four mobile phones and an Aadhaar card were recovered from his possession. Further investigation is underway to ascertain his network and involvement in extortion-related activities, officials added.-----------
