Guwahati, 04 March (HS): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has upgraded its Senior Institute at Maligaon into a modern, world-class facility aimed at enhancing the welfare of railway employees and their families. The renovated and redeveloped institute has been renamed “Kanaklata Bhawan” in honour of Assam’s youngest freedom fighter, Kanaklata Barua, who laid down her life during India’s struggle for independence.
The newly upgraded institute is equipped with contemporary amenities designed to host social gatherings and cultural events in a well-furnished and prestigious environment. The initiative reflects the railway’s continued focus on improving institutional infrastructure for the benefit of its workforce.
In addition, a renovated community hall within the campus has been dedicated to noted cultural icon Bishnu Prasad Rabha, whose immense contributions to art, music and social reform continue to inspire generations. The hall will serve as a venue for social functions, cultural programmes and other community activities, providing a dedicated space for railway employees and their families.
A children’s play area named “Nahar Udyan” has also been developed within the campus, offering a safe and vibrant recreational space for young family members. The move underscores the railway’s holistic approach to employee welfare, ensuring improved infrastructure and community facilities for families as well.
NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava inaugurated the upgraded facilities Tuesday. Emphasising the importance of employee welfare, he stated that the development of modern institutions, upgraded hospitals and renovated schools forms a key part of the railway’s broader vision. He expressed hope that such initiatives would boost morale and encourage employees to perform their duties with greater efficiency, dedication and pride.
With enhanced institutional infrastructure and improved amenities, the Northeast Frontier Railway has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening employee welfare and promoting service excellence.------------
