Guwahati, 05 March (HS): In a significant political development in Assam, three Congress MLAs — Sashikanta Das, Basanta Das and Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha — joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday.

According to reports from political circles, Raha MLA Sashikanta Das, Mangaldoi MLA Basanta Das and Uttar Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha switched allegiance to the BJP, dealing a setback to the Congress in the state.

Sources said the three legislators formally joined the BJP on Thursday, a move that is expected to strengthen the ruling party’s position amid ongoing political developments in Assam.
