
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, Nagpur’s Ivnate,
Hingoli’s Wadkute included
Mumbai, 04 Mar (HS): Bharatiya Janata Party has
announced names of four candidates for election to Rajya Sabha. The names
include Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, BJP’s senior leader and former
Maharashtra Minister Vinod Tawde, Hingoli District Unit President Ramrao
Wadkute and former Mayor of Nagpur Maya Ivnate.
Shiv Sena (Shinde) and Nationalist Congress Pary
(Sharad Pawar) will finalise name of one candidate each. NCP (Ajit Pawar) has made
Parth Pawar, son of late Ajit Pawar as the party’s candidate.
The last date of filing nomination papers is March 5
and polling, if required, will be held on March 16. The counting of votes will
be carried out on the same date after the polling.
Efforts are being made to conduct the elections
without any opposition.
NCP (Sharad Pawar), UBT Sena are interested in
nomination of Sharad Pawar to rajya Sabha. His daughter Surpiya Sule is also
projecting his name. Pawar will require support of Maha-Vikas Aghadi partners
for completing the quota of required votes.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra
Fadnavis has said that BJP may field fifth candidate, if MVA fails to select
Sharad Pawar as its candidate. BJP-Shiv Sena and NCP (Ajit Pawar) alliance has enough
voters to get elected the fifth candidate.
