Guwahati, 31 March (HS): Raising questions over Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi’s reported visit to Pakistan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday urged him to clarify his position, stating that any perceived links with an “enemy state” are unlikely to be viewed positively by the public.

Addressing media during his visit to Assam as a star campaigner for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Fadnavis remarked that the party expects transparency from Gogoi on the issue. However, he maintained that his immediate priority remains strengthening the BJP’s campaign efforts across the state.

Projecting optimism about the party’s electoral prospects, Fadnavis asserted that the BJP is on track to register a third consecutive victory in the Assam Assembly Elections 2026. He indicated that the party could even outperform its previous results under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Pointing to the state’s progress, he said Assam has undergone notable transformation in recent years, attributing this to the synergy between the Centre and the state government under the “double-engine” model of governance.

Appealing to voters, Fadnavis called for continued support to the BJP, urging them to back the leadership of Modi and Sarma for sustained development and stability in the state.

Expressing confidence in the electoral mood, he added that his long political experience suggests a strong wave in favour of the BJP, which could translate into a decisive mandate. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier echoed similar confidence, highlighting enthusiastic public participation in the party’s campaign activities.

Assam is scheduled to vote in a single phase on April 9, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.---------------
