New Delhi, 30 March (H.S.):
The Rouse Avenue sessions court on Monday deferred to April 18 a petition seeking FIR against Sonia Gandhi for allegedly getting her name added to the voter list in 1980 three years before gaining Indian citizenship.
Petitioner lawyer Vikas Tripathi completed arguments while Gandhi's counsel could not finishing theirs Special Judge Vishal Gogne ruled.
Tripathi challenged a magistrate court's rejection of his FIR demand claiming Gandhi's 1980 voter enrollment involved forged documents since she applied for citizenship in April 1983 with her name briefly removed in 1982 before reinstatement.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia dismissed the plea on September 11 last year without issuing notices to Gandhi or Delhi Police prompting Tripathi's sessions court appeal.
The court had issued notices to both on December 9 2025 labeling the alleged discrepancy a cognizable offense warranting investigation.
