New Delhi, 30 March (H.S.):
Opposition parties stormed out of the Rajya Sabha on Monday protesting a BJP member's charge that OBC reservations were being misused on religious grounds particularly for Muslims in several states.
During Zero Hour BJP MP K Laxman demanded review of quotas in Telangana West Bengal Tamil Nadu and Kerala claiming they violated the Constitution by favoring religion over social and educational backwardness.
Laxman argued OBC benefits should hinge on merit not faith sparking uproar with Deputy Opposition Leader Pramod Tiwari slamming it as divisive and aimed at undermining backward class rights.
Opposition MPs voicing strong objections walked out disrupting proceedings.
Nadda Hits Back at Congress
Leader of the House JP Nadda criticized the exit as evasion of debate accusing Congress-led INDIA bloc of lacking faith in democracy parliamentary norms discussion or the Constitution itself.
He charged they treat Muslims as vote banks via appeasement politics while the OBC issue tied to constitutional principles gets politicized to fragment society despite government's readiness for talks.
