Cpimbatore, 29 March (H.S.):A massive security operation has been rolled out across Coimbatore on Sunday in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brief transit through the city en route to election campaign events in Kerala. With heightened political activity in the region, authorities have stepped up vigilance to ensure seamless movement and public safety.

Senior police officials confirmed that multiple zones in and around the city have been placed under high-security classification, with strict curbs imposed on aerial and ground-level activities. These preventive steps are aimed at eliminating potential risks during the Prime Minister’s arrival and onward journey.

Drone operations have been completely prohibited in sensitive pockets under the Coimbatore Rural Police limits, including Neelambur, Chinthamanipudur, Chettipalayam, Madhukarai, Ettimadai, and Walayar. The restrictions, in force until Sunday evening, are part of a broader strategy to secure airspace during the VVIP movement.

Within city limits, additional “Red Zone” restrictions have been enforced across key arterial stretches such as Avinashi Road, Peelamedu, Kalapatti, Singanallur, and surrounding areas. Movement in these zones is being closely monitored, with checkpoints and surveillance systems operating round-the-clock for a 48-hour window.

Around 5,000 personnel from various security agencies have been deployed, supported by a three-layered security grid at Coimbatore Airport and adjoining locations. Advanced surveillance equipment and coordinated control rooms have been activated to oversee operations.

The Prime Minister is expected to arrive by air before proceeding to Kerala via helicopter. The visit comes ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled in the state on April 9, intensifying political momentum across districts.

During his Kerala leg, Modi will address a public gathering in Palakkad and later take part in a roadshow in Thrissur, where he will campaign for NDA candidates, including Padmaja Venugopal, in what is seen as a strategically significant outreach.
