Guwahati, 27 March (HS): A total of 722 candidates are contesting in the upcoming Assembly elections, comprising 663 male candidates, 59 female candidates and no candidates under the “others” category, according to official data.
The figures highlight a significant gender disparity, with male candidates overwhelmingly dominating the electoral fray, while female participation remains comparatively low.
Among the constituencies, the highest number of candidates—15 each—has been recorded in 122-Algapur-Katlicherra and 124-Karimganj South Assembly constituencies, making them the most crowded electoral battlegrounds.
On the other hand, the lowest number of candidates—just two each—has been reported in several constituencies, including 31-Rangia, 52-Jagiroad (SC), 63-Hojai, 69-Nadua, 80-Jonai (ST), 82-Doom Dooma, 94-Mahmora, 99-Teok and 114-Lakhimpur.
The data reflects varied levels of political competition across constituencies, with some witnessing intense multi-cornered contests while others remain relatively less crowded.---------
