Chandigarh, 25 March (H.S.):

Punjab Police arrested AAP MLA from Sanaur constituency Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday night after months on the run facing rape and other charges. The lawmaker had been absconding since a woman filed a case at Patiala Civil Lines police station on September 1 2025 accusing him of rape fraud and more.

The woman alleged Pathanmajra lured her into physical relations from 2013-14 through 2024 especially between February 12 2014 and June 12 2024 by promising marriage while claiming to be divorced. They even married in a Ludhiana gurdwara in 2021 but he was already married.

He was briefly held in Karnal Haryana on September 2 but escaped police custody amid firing and stone pelting injuring one officer.

The case reached court which declared him a proclaimed offender in December 2025. Reports then surfaced he fled to Australia giving interviews prompting a lookout notice.

Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said they cornered him late Tuesday near Gwalior in Shivpuri district Madhya Pradesh along with three associates. The accused MLA has been brought to Patiala.
