25 March (HS): With an eye on increasing farmers' income and ensuring
nutritional security in the agricultural sector, a one-day training program on
makhana (fox nut) production and processing was successfully held today. The
program was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SHUATS, Prayagraj-1, and was
attended by numerous farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs from the region.
The
program was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Mukesh P. Masih, In-charge of the
Agricultural Science Center, Prayagraj, by lighting a lamp. In his address, he
described Makhana as a profitable and nutritious crop and encouraged farmers to
adopt its scientific cultivation. He said that Makhana cultivation can yield
high profits at low costs and can become a good source of income for farmers.
During the
training, experts provided detailed information on improved makhana varieties,
sowing methods, water management, pest and disease control, and harvesting and
processing techniques. They also highlighted makhana's nutritional value and
market potential. Farmers
present at the program described the training as useful, saying it provided
them with new information and inspiration for makhana cultivation. 100 farmers
from the district's Chaka, Jasra, Shankargarh, Karchana, and Kaundhiara blocks
participated in the training. At the program's conclusion, Dr. Subodh Yadav
concluded the training with wishes for a bright future for the participants.
