
Guwahati, 25 March (HS): The scrutiny of nomination papers for the General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, 2026 has been successfully completed across all 126 Assembly constituencies, officials said on Wednesday.
The scrutiny process was primarily conducted on March 24. However, for 24 Barpeta (SC) and 65 Dhekiajuli Assembly constituencies, the exercise was adjourned and resumed at 11:00 AM on March 25. The scrutiny for both constituencies has now been concluded.
In 65 Dhekiajuli constituency, all 10 nomination papers were found valid. Meanwhile, in 24 Barpeta (SC), out of the nominations examined, one was declared invalid while three were found valid.
Altogether, 815 candidates had submitted 1,389 nomination papers across the 126 constituencies. Following the scrutiny process, 789 candidates have been declared eligible to contest the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Election Commission has set March 26, 2026, up to 3:00 PM, as the last date for withdrawal of candidature.-----------
