
Guwahati, 25 March (HS): A crucial meeting was held on Wednesday with representatives of recognised national and state-level political parties in Kamrup (Metro) district in the presence of Election Commission-appointed observers ahead of the Assam assembly elections 2026.
The meeting, chaired by District Election Officer and District Commissioner Sapna Paul, was attended by General Observers Pradeep Kumar Krishnarao Dange and Him Shekhar Gupta, Expenditure Observers Ranjan Prakash and Rajat Sen, and Police Observer Aslam Khan. It took place at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office.
During the meeting, various aspects of the upcoming election process were reviewed to ensure that the polls are conducted in a free and transparent manner. Discussions covered the Model Code of Conduct, preparedness of polling stations and strong rooms, polling procedures, and election expenditure monitoring. The District Election Officer urged all political parties to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct and follow the guidelines issued by the Election Commission.
Additionally, representatives of political parties were invited to attend a meeting with polling officials scheduled to be held at 4 PM on March 26. Senior officials associated with the election process, including Guwahati (Metro) Police Commissioner Dr Partha Sarathi Mahanta, were also present at the meeting.---------
