Guwahati, 25 March (HS): The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday alleged that the Indian National Congress has failed to present a clear and credible agenda for the people of the state, particularly indigenous communities and citizens of Indian origin.

Addressing a press conference at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati, state BJP spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi said the absence of a well-defined policy framework has limited Congress’s ability to effectively connect with the public. He added that while the चुनाव process is underway, the opposition appears directionless and largely focused on criticism and personal attacks against the BJP rather than presenting concrete welfare or development plans.

Medhi further claimed that opposition alliances have not been able to offer a unified vision or common agenda, suggesting that their primary objective remains opposing the BJP-led alliance. In contrast, he highlighted that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is actively leading an intensive campaign across multiple constituencies daily, receiving significant public participation.

He said the campaign has entered a new phase with the launch of “Vijay Sankalp Sabha,” through which the Chief Minister is outlining a future-oriented roadmap for Assam’s development. The BJP also reiterated its focus on reclaiming encroached government land, setting a target to free an additional five lakh bighas beyond the 1.5 lakh bighas already recovered.

On employment, Medhi stated that after providing around two lakh government jobs through a transparent process, the government has announced plans to create two lakh more employment opportunities. He added that initiatives aimed at promoting self-reliance among youth would be expanded to benefit up to 10 lakh individuals if the party returns to power.

The BJP also questioned the limited outreach of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi, claiming his campaign has largely remained confined to the Jorhat constituency. The party further expressed doubts over the Congress’s list of star campaigners, stating that past remarks by some senior leaders may not resonate well with the people of Assam.

Reiterating its stance, the BJP said voters are seeking clarity, stability and a development-oriented vision, which, it claimed, is reflected in the leadership and governance of current state government.------------
