New Delhi, 24 March (H.S.):
The central government has convened an all-party meeting Wednesday at 5 pm in Parliament House Annexe to brief floor leaders from all parties on the escalating West Asia conflict and its implications for India amid volatile markets and domestic LPG supplies.
Discussions will cover the conflicts fallout on Indias energy security trade routes and economic stability with the government seeking bipartisan consensus. Opposition voices have pressed for such a consultation though Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to attend citing a prior commitment in Kerala as he told media Tuesday.
Earlier Tuesday opposition figures like Rahul Gandhi Jairam Ramesh and Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas criticized the governments handling of the crisis with Brittas invoking Parliaments 2003 Iraq war condemnation resolution urging similar stance on Iran.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Rajya Sabha Tuesday stressing energy security collaboration with states and the need for the Upper House to project unity peace and dialogue while he had briefed Lok Sabha Monday on mitigation measures.
