Kolkata, 22 March (H.S.): Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand on Sunday said that incidents like booth jamming, vote rigging or capturing will not be tolerated under any circumstances, as he reviewed poll preparedness at Bhangar police station.

During his visit, Nand held a meeting with police personnel and directed them to strictly follow the Election Commission’s guidelines to ensure free and fair polling.

Speaking to reporters later, he said Kolkata Police is fully prepared to conduct peaceful elections. Naka checking and search operations are being carried out in different areas, and joint patrolling with central forces is underway. He also informed that more central forces will be deployed ahead of the polls.

Meanwhile, DIG of Presidency Range Kankar Prasad Barui inspected three police stations in the southern suburban areas—Narendrapur, Sonarpur and Baruipur—to assess the level of preparedness. He also held meetings with officials to review security arrangements.

With several polling booths located in rural pockets of these areas, special emphasis is being laid on ensuring adequate security. Officials briefed him on the measures being taken for smooth conduct of polling.

Barui said preparations following the announcement of elections have been reviewed, and discussions were held on steps required for conducting the polling process efficiently. He directed all personnel, from officers to home guards, to remain fully prepared.

He added that the objective is to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and fear-free manner in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines.
