Health employees announce 2-day strike over salary delay

Jammu, 21 March (H.S.): The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Health and Medical Education Employees today announced a two-day strike from March 24 to 25 over the delay in release of pending 2% days’ salary, while exempting emergency services from the proposed agitation.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Committee held under the presidentship of Jaswinder Singh, president JKMEF, which was attended by core committee members and representatives from GMC Jammu.

During the meeting, members expressed serious concern over the prolonged delay in the release of the pending salary, stating that it has adversely affected employees across the sector. The Committee unanimously reiterated its demand for immediate disbursement of the dues.

The members noted that a committee constituted under Government Order Number 144-JK(HME) of 2026 dated March 11, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Principal, GMC Jammu, was mandated to submit its report by March 18. However, no progress has been reported so far, further deepening resentment among employees.

Addressing the gathering, Jaswinder Singh said that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure the success of the strike and to mobilize employees across health institutions in support of their demands.

Sushil Sudan, Chairman and Member PCI, warned that failure on the part of the Government to resolve the issue in a timely manner could lead to intensification of the agitation, with the possibility of extending the strike.

The Committee also urged the Government to reconsider and withdraw Finance Department Order Number HME-Acct/236/2022-02 (cc-150945) dated January 26, 2026, to prevent further unrest.
