
Kolkata, 20 March (H.S.): A 22-year-old contractual sanitation worker was found hanging inside the premises of SSKM Hospital on Friday morning, triggering panic in the state-run facility, the police said.
The deceased was identified as Imran Sardar, who was employed on a contract basis at the hospital.
According to police sources, the body was discovered on the fourth floor of the new outpatient department (OPD) building, near the gastroenterology unit. Hospital staff members, who had arrived to open the OPD in the morning, spotted him hanging inside a room and immediately alerted the authorities.
The incident caused a commotion in the hospital premises, with staff and patients gathering at the spot.
The police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death. It is yet to be determined whether it was a case of suicide or foul play, officials said.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident earlier in the day, a man died after allegedly getting trapped inside a lift at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The deceased was identified as Arup Banerjee, a resident of Dum Dum. Further details are awaited.
