Guwahati, 20 March (HS): The Election Commission of India has mandated pre-certification of all political advertisements by Media Certification and Monitoring Committees (MCMC) for the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam and other states.

As per the directive, political parties and candidates must obtain prior approval for ads across electronic and internet-based platforms, including social media, before publication. Candidates are also required to disclose their official social media accounts in their nomination affidavits.

The Commission further directed strict monitoring of paid news and misinformation, while political parties must submit detailed expenditure reports on digital campaigning within 75 days after the elections, in line with the Representation of the People Act, 1951.------------
