Bhubaneswar, 20 March (H.S.): A major fire broke out at the Mahabir Market Complex near CRP Square on Friday, triggering panic among shopkeepers, employees, and residents in the busy commercial area.
According to preliminary reports, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. The blaze reportedly originated on the first floor of the building and quickly spread to adjoining shops, intensifying within a short period. Thick plumes of smoke engulfed the market complex, significantly reducing visibility and creating difficulties for initial firefighting operations.
The market complex houses several commercial establishments, including bank ATMs, garment stores, plastic goods outlets, and other retail shops. Sources indicated that goods and property worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the incident, though an official assessment of the damage is yet to be carried out.
Upon receiving information about the incident, fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and launched a large-scale firefighting operation. At least four fire tenders were deployed to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters battled intense heat and dense smoke while working to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far. Officials said the situation remains under close monitoring, and efforts are underway to completely extinguish the fire.
Further details are awaited
