March (HS): A student was shot and killed on Friday on the campus of Uday
Pratap Mahavidyalaya (UP College) in Bhojubir, Varanasi district, Uttar
Pradesh. Upon receiving information, Shivpur police station, along with Police
Commissioner Mohit Agarwal, Additional Police Commissioner Shivhari Meena, and
other officers arrived at the scene with reinforcements. The accused shooter is
a student of the same college. Police are investigating the matter.

Police Commissioner Shivhari Meena said that Surya Pratap Singh (23), a
resident of Ghazipur district, was studying in the fourth semester of his B.Sc.
degree in the college hostel. He was also preparing for the student union
president election. Investigations revealed that Surya Pratap was standing in
the veranda of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences on the college campus
around 11 a.m. on Friday. The assailant arrived and fired a barrage of bullets
at him. Hearing the gunfire, students gathered, and the accused threw the
pistol into a nearby garbage heap and fled. Seriously injured, Surya Pratap was
rushed to the BHU Trauma Center for treatment, where he succumbed to his
injuries.
Meanwhile,
students, angered by the incident, closed the college's main gate and began
protesting. They alleged that shots were fired in front of the principal. The
angry students also vandalized the campus. Police officers who arrived at the
scene calmed the angry students by assuring them of strict action against the
accused. Police gathered information from the students about the entire
incident. Eyewitnesses say the student was shot in approximately eight places.

Police Commissioner Shivhari Meena said that a student was murdered on the
college campus. The killer is said to be a student of the same college. He has
been absconding since the incident, and police teams have been deployed to
search for him. Police have been deployed at the college for security purposes.
