Kolkata, 19 March (H.S.): The Left Front on Thursday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, announcing nominees for 32 constituencies.

Earlier, the alliance had declared candidates for 192 seats in its first list. With the release of the second list, the Left Front has now announced candidates for a total of 224 constituencies. Names for the remaining seats are expected to be announced soon.

According to the list, Pasang Sherpa of the RSP has been fielded from Kalchini (ST). The CPI(M) has nominated MD Sahabuddin from Karandighi and Basudev Murmu from Habibpur.

Anwarul Haque has been named from Chanchal, Mahmudul Hasan from Bhagabangola and Jamal Hossain from Raninagar. Purnima Das has been fielded from Nabagram (SC), while Yunus Ali Sarkar will contest from Jalangi.

From Nadia district, Advaita Biswas has been nominated from Krishnanagar North, Archana Biswas from Krishnaganj (SC) and Sabuj Das from Kalyani (SC). Ainul Arfin has been fielded from Basirhat South.

In South 24 Parganas, Ramshankar Halder has been nominated from Kultali (SC), Apurba Pramanik from Joynagar (SC) and Layek Ali from Baruipur West. Samarendra Nath Naiya will contest from Diamond Harbour.

In Kolkata, Professor Partha Pratim Biswas has been nominated from Tollygunge, advocate Monirul Islam from Metiabruz and advocate Srijib Biswas from Bhabanipur. Artist Afrin Begum has been fielded from Ballygunge.

Chandranath Banerjee has been nominated from Champdani, Sudipta Sarkar from Jangipara and Sandip Kumar Samanta from Pursurah. Ibrahim Ali and Niranjan Sihi have been fielded from Panskura East and Panskura West respectively.

From East Midnapore, CPI candidate Shanti Giri will contest from Nandigram. Himanshu Das has been nominated from Khejuri (SC) and Dr Pulin Bihari Baske from Nayagram (ST).

Bikash Sarangi has been fielded from Gopiballavpur, Anupam Ghosh from Monteswar and Akhilesh Kumar Singh from Asansol North. Mohammad Ali Reza Mondal will contest from Murarai.

The latest list indicates the Left Front’s attempt to maintain a regional and social balance while selecting candidates. The alliance is expected to announce candidates for the remaining constituencies in the coming days.
