New Delhi, 13 March (H.S.): Rouse Avenue Court rejected a plea seeking FIR registration against Delhi Law Minister Kapil Mishra in connection with the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar delivered the order.
A prior directive by Additional Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia for an FIR was challenged by Mishra in sessions court, which quashed the probe order; Chaurasia's subsequent transfer left the case with Panwar. She dismissed the FIR demand, paving the way for complainants to present evidence.
Karkardooma Court had earlier flagged potential investigative lapses or concealment regarding Mishra, stressing heightened scrutiny for public figures whose words sway public sentiment and who must adhere to constitutional bounds. Mishra, a BJP victor from Karawal Nagar in the 2025 assembly polls, now serves as Law Minister.
