New Delhi, 13 March (H.S.): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a devastating incident where a wall collapse at an under-construction site near Bilaspur in Gurugram claimed seven workers' lives and injured three others. It issued notices to Haryana's Chief Secretary and Gurugram Police Commissioner, directing a detailed report within two weeks.
According to a media report published on March 10, 2026, the collapse occurred on March 9 at a sewage treatment plant under construction for an upcoming residential project by Signature Global in the Sidhrawali area.
The failure of a concrete retention wall triggered a soil cave-in around 7:30-8:00 PM, trapping 12-15 laborers under debris; rescue efforts involving police, civil defense, firefighters, and the State Disaster Response Force ensued through the night.
The NHRC seeks specifics on the injured workers' health status, compensation provided to victims' families, and measures to prevent such human rights violations among vulnerable laborers.
This probe highlights persistent safety lapses at construction sites, with victims rushed to a Bhiwadi hospital where seven were declared dead on arrival.
