Former Diplomat Taranjit Sandhu Sworn In as Delhi's 23rd Lieutenant Governor


New Delhi, 11 March (H.S.): Veteran diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu took oath as Delhi's Lieutenant Governor on Wednesday, administered by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya at a ceremony held at Lok Niwas.

Sandhu succeeds Vinai Kumar Saxena, now appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended the event and welcomed Sandhu, expressing confidence that his leadership would accelerate Delhi's progress and resolve challenges more effectively.

Appointed by the President on March 5, Sandhu previously served as India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and 28th Ambassador to the United States. Born January 23, 1963, in Punjab, he graduated in History from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, and earned an MA in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Prior to the oath, he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss public service and governance matters.
