Pilibhit, 01 March
(HS): On Sunday, investigators discovered the body of an adult male tiger in
the Mahof range of Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. According to the
forest department, the situation is apprehensive, and the reason of the large
cat's death will not be determined until an autopsy is conducted. The carcass
was discovered on Saturday night, and forest department crews hurried to the
location near the Dhamela watch tower, which sits between the Mahof and Mala
mountains, officials said. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Bharat Kumar D K
arrived with his team, and the chief conservator of forests from Bareilly visited
the scene around 2 a.m. on Sunday, they added.
The DFO confirmed the death and stated that the
entire procedure is being carried out in line with the National Tiger
Conservation Authority's (NTCA) protocols. The cadaver will be taken to the
Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly for a post-mortem. According
to the officials, preliminary inspections revealed no evident traces of
infighting or exterior damage to the corpse. While tiger fatalities are typically
ascribed to territorial fights or poaching, the absence of apparent wounds has
prompted the forest authorities to regard the case as suspicious, adding to the
mystery surrounding the event. According to the officials, the Project Tiger's
nodal officer will also visit the site to examine security precautions and
monitoring systems for any gaps.
