Sivasagar (Assam), 26 February (HS): In a major crackdown against narcotics, the Namti Police in Sivasagar district seized a substantial quantity of ganja and arrested two alleged drug peddlers during a late-night operation on Wednesday.

According to police sources, acting on specific intelligence inputs about transportation of ganja in a white Maruti Swift car from Teok in Jorhat district towards Nazira, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge Bhuban Jyoti Gogoi of Namti Police Station launched a vehicle checking drive at the historic Dhodar Ali area.

During the search operation, police intercepted the suspected vehicle and recovered 1.537 kilograms of suspected ganja. The team also seized two mobile phones, ₹6,960 in cash, and the Swift car bearing registration number AS-03AD-8059.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Hemanta Bora of Bamunpukhuri Boragaon and Biswajyoti Phukan of Khargharia village, both under Teok Police Station in Jorhat district.

Police have registered a case in connection with the seizure, and further legal proceedings are underway.----------
