Chennai, 26 Feb (H.S.): Marking a decisive step towards her political re-entry, VK Sasikala on Thursday declared that she will soon unveil the name of her new political outfit and formally enter the fray for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Addressing reporters at the Chennai airport, the former confidante of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa said the announcement would be made within a week.
Sasikala made it clear that her proposed party is not a symbolic initiative but one aimed at actively contesting the upcoming Assembly polls. She indicated that groundwork is already under way and that organisational efforts are progressing across the State.
On the question of alliances, Sasikala revealed that discussions are currently taking place with potential partners. “Talks are going on regarding an alliance, and they will lead to a favourable outcome,” she said, while refraining from naming any specific party. Her statement has triggered fresh speculation in political circles, particularly at a time when parties are recalibrating strategies ahead of 2026.
Responding to concerns about the relatively short time frame before the elections, Sasikala dismissed apprehensions about preparedness. She asserted that her long-standing public presence and political association with the AIADMK legacy would ensure recognition and support among voters.
Observers note that Sasikala’s renewed political push could influence alliance equations in a State where electoral battles are often shaped by coalition arithmetic and legacy politics. Her move comes amid increasing political activity, with major parties intensifying outreach programmes and internal consultations.
During the interaction, Sasikala also expressed her condolences over the demise of veteran CPI leader R. Nallakannu. She described him as a leader who devoted his entire life to public causes and the uplift of the underprivileged.
Highlighting his simplicity and commitment, she said Nallakannu remained steadfast to his ideology without seeking electoral office. Calling his death an irreparable loss, she added that his contributions to his movement and to society would be remembered with respect and gratitude.
With the promise of a new party launch and alliance talks in motion, Sasikala’s announcement signals the beginning of another chapter in Tamil Nadu’s dynamic political landscape.
