Imphal, 26 February (HS): In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur, police and security forces have arrested four individuals, including a serving police constable driver, for their alleged links with different militant organisations.
According to information released by the Manipur Police Headquarters on Thursday, the first arrest involved a constable driver of Manipur Police, Kongkham Sanajoba Singh alias Ibomcha (43). He was apprehended from Utlou Chanura under Nambol police station in Bishnupur district. Despite being in active police service, he was found to be working as an active member of the KCP (MFL), allegedly engaging in recruitment of cadres for the proscribed outfit.
In a separate operation, security forces arrested Nahakpam Shibananda Singh alias Amuthoi (32), an active cadre of PREPAK allegedly involved in extortion activities. He was picked up from the Singjamei area under Imphal West district.
Acting on further inputs, police also detained his associate, Deviya Mongjam (29), a resident of Kwakeithel Nganapithong Mapal in Imphal West, from her residence. She is accused of assisting in the handling of extorted money. Two mobile phones, an iPad and an Aadhaar card were seized from her possession.
In another crackdown, security personnel arrested Chingkham Rocky Singh alias Sanathoi alias Ipumba (38), an active cadre of RPF/PLA, from Thoubal district. A mobile handset along with a SIM card was recovered from him.
Police sources said that search operations and area domination exercises are continuing in vulnerable and interior areas of the state. On Wednesday, a total of 115 naka and checkpoints were set up across hill and valley districts, though no detentions were reported during the checking drives.
Movement of 199 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 was ensured under security cover. Adequate security measures have been put in place at all sensitive locations, with escorts provided along vulnerable stretches to guarantee safe and unhindered transportation.-----------
