Golaghat (Assam), 26 February (HS): Tensions escalated at the party’s circuit house in Golaghat on Thursday as Congress workers gheraoed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi in protest against reports of the Sarupathar constituency being ceded to the Asom Jatiya Parishad.

The agitating workers expressed strong resentment over the possibility of the Sarupathar seat being left for the Asom Jatiya Parishad, stating that such a move would undermine loyal party workers who have been working in the constituency for years. Slogans were raised and party leaders were confronted during the protest at the circuit house.

The protesters issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Gogoi, demanding that he clarify the party’s stand on the matter. They warned that if the situation is not made clear within the stipulated time, thousands of Congress workers would resort to a mass head-shaving protest and quit the party in strong opposition to the decision.

The development highlights growing unrest within the state Congress unit amid ongoing discussions over seat-sharing arrangements ahead of the upcoming elections.-----------
