Guwahati, 26 February (HS): In a major boost to the state’s aviation sector, Assam is set to establish an Airbus Maintenance & Repairing (MRO) Hub at the airport in Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma informed after a program on Thursday. He said that the upcoming facility is expected to strengthen the region’s aviation infrastructure and generate significant employment opportunities.
The MRO hub for Airbus aircraft will be constructed at the Guwahati airport, with the Airports Authority of India taking the lead in setting up the specialised unit. CM said the project would position Assam as a key aviation services centre in the Northeast.
In addition, an engineering hub related to Dassault Aviation’s Rafale programme is also planned at Assam Engineering College (AEC), further expanding the state’s footprint in high-end aerospace technology and technical services.
Chief Minister stated that the initiative will open new avenues of employment for the youth of Assam, enabling skilled and trained professionals from the state to access advanced opportunities in the aviation and defence sectors. The development is being seen as a transformative step towards making Assam an emerging hub for aircraft maintenance and aerospace engineering in the country.--------
