Guwahati, 24 February (HS): Dispur Police have arrested a habitual offender on charges of cheating by allegedly renting vehicles and illegally selling them in different parts of the Northeast.

According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Rupjyoti Das of Athgaon. He was apprehended for allegedly taking vehicles on rent from owners and subsequently selling them in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Based on his disclosure, police recovered as many as 11 vehicles believed to have been fraudulently disposed of by the accused. The arrest was made following a formal complaint lodged in connection with the case.

Police stated that intensive interrogation of the accused is underway to ascertain the full extent of the racket and identify possible accomplices.-----------
