Chennai, 24 February (H.S.) : The Communist Party of India (CPI) has officially announced the formation of a high-level committee to initiate seat-sharing negotiations with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This strategic decision was finalized during a meeting of the State Executive Committee of the CPI, which was conducted under the chairmanship of S. Kalaichelvam. The party has appointed a four-member negotiating team, led by State Secretary M. Veerapandian, to represent its interests within the Secular Progressive Alliance.

According to the official statement from the party, the first round of formal discussions between the CPI and the DMK leadership is scheduled to take place on February 27, 2026. The committee tasked with these crucial negotiations includes prominent party leaders M. Veerapandian, R. Mutharasan, K. Subbarayan, and G. Palanisamy. These leaders will work together to finalize the number of constituencies the CPI will contest as part of the alliance's collective strategy to secure a victory in the polls.

The CPI leadership emphasized that these talks are a vital component of the alliance's preparatory process to ensure a cohesive and effective campaign. By establishing this committee well in advance, the party aims to reach a mutual agreement on seat distribution that reflects its strength and presence across the state. Political observers are closely watching these developments as the major stakeholders of the Secular Progressive Alliance begin to formalize their electoral arrangements for the high-stakes battle.
