New Delhi/Tehran, 23 February (HS): The Indian Embassy in Iran on Monday issued a fresh advisory urging all Indian nationals residing in the country to leave by available means of transport, including commercial flights, in view of the evolving security situation and ongoing nationwide protests.
In an official statement, the Embassy said the advisory is a continuation of earlier notices issued on January 5 and reiterated on January 14. It advised students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists currently in Iran to depart the country at the earliest through available transport options.
The mission stated that the advisory is precautionary in nature and applies to all categories of Indian nationals in Iran. It reiterated that Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin should exercise caution, avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and remain in contact with the Embassy.
Indian nationals have been asked to keep their travel and immigration documents, including passports and identity cards, readily accessible and to monitor local media for updates.
The Embassy also issued emergency contact numbers and an email address for assistance and advised those who have not yet registered with the mission to do so through the designated online portal. In case of internet disruptions, families in India may complete the registration process on their behalf.
The advisory comes amid renewed anti-government protests in Tehran and other cities. Reports indicate demonstrations by university students and heightened tensions in parts of the country. Indian authorities said they are closely monitoring developments and will extend assistance to nationals facing difficulties.
