
Mumbai, 23 Feb (HS): Maharashtra has
contributed more than 13.5 percent in the country’s total production and has fetched
direct foreign investment of Rs 1,64,875 core during 2024-2025, which is about
39 percent of the total foreign investment in the country. In the first half of
2025-2026, the state has got foreign investment of Rs 91,337 crore and signed
MoUs in 2026 worth Rs 30 lakh crore. The state is fast growing towards becoming
a five trillion economy by 2047. This was stated by Maharashtra Governor
Acharya Devavrat in his address in the Maharashtra Legislature, on the first
day of the budget session in Mumbai.
The budget session began with the
address by the Governor on Monday. The budget this year will be presented on
March 6 by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, as the Finance Minister and
Depouty Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash on January 28.
For achieving the goal of ‘Developed
Maharashtra by 2047’ a Vision Management Unit has been formed, Devavrat said.
He appealed to the members of both the houses of the state legislature to carry
out constructive discussions on bills during the session.
Border Dispute with Karnataka: The Governor said that the State Government
is determined to resolve the border dispute with Karnataka. Prominent lawyers
have been appointed to argue for the cause of Maharashtra, in the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, various welfare schemes are being implemented for the Marathi
speaking population on the border area, which is under dispute.
New Industrial Policy and Start-ups: Under the Maharashtra Industry,
Investment and Services Policy 2025, the state plans to invest Rs 17.50 lakh
crore and to generate 50 lakh jobs. Bamboo, precious stone and jewellery,
AVGS-XR are being projects on global
map. Gadchiroli is being developed as steel hub. The Government plans to
support 1.25 lakh industries and 50,000 Start-Ups.
Export Preparedness Index: Maharashtra stood at the top in
the country in Export Preparedness Index, as declared by the NITI Ayog in January
2026. Besides infrastructure development, road network and proving basic
amenities, private and public investment is being encouraged. The policy for development
of marine links to enhance logistics has been announcement.
Devavrat
also referred to use of AI technology in agriculture sector, and financial
support of Rs 15,576 crore to farmers affected by the vagaries of climate Free
electricity for motor pumps for agriculture up to 7.5 Horse Power and installation
of solar pumps which would benefit a record 44 lakh farmers. The feat has been
recorded by the Gueness Book of World Records.
Maharashtra
Government was selected for the Jal Shakti Award for its achievement.
The State
Government is determined for empowerment of women and tribal by implementing
various schemes like Rani Durgavati Women Empowerment Scheme.
The
Governor also referred to facilities for skill development, expansion of AI
technology and its use in various sectors, Data Science etc, and making their
studies in local language.
.Promotion and preservation of
cultural heritage and improving tourism will help in generating revenue. He
also referred to encouragement in the field of sports and providing more
facilities for attracting talented sports persons.
