
Guwahati, 23 February (HS): In a landmark day for Assam, as many as one lakh families became proud homeowners under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), with the ceremonial Griha Pravesh conducted in the presence of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday.
The programme marked a significant step in strengthening rural housing infrastructure across the state. On the occasion, it was also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a series of major development initiatives for Assam, further accelerating growth and welfare efforts.
Among the key approvals are 528 roads and 62 bridges with a total outlay of ₹1,817 crore. Additionally, an extra three crore mandays along with ₹1,100 crore allocation have been sanctioned under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to boost rural employment. An amount of ₹42 crore has been released under the PULSES Mission, while an additional ₹40.5 crore has been approved for providing power tillers to farmers. The procurement of 62,500 metric tonnes of mustard has also been cleared to support agricultural producers.
Further strengthening rural livelihoods, ₹120 crore in financial assistance was distributed under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).
In a major digital push aimed at empowering citizens, the state government also launched several new initiatives, including the Mukhyamantri Utkarsh Yojana, Krishi Sarathi App, Samaveshi Ajeevika Yojana, and the Rural One App, signalling a comprehensive approach towards inclusive and technology-driven development in Assam.--------------
