Jammu, 23 February (H.S.): Police in Gharota area here claimed to have seized 14 quintals of illegally felled Khair wood from Showa Village.

A police official said around 3 PM, a team of Police Station Gharota received reliable information regarding illegal felling of Khair trees at Showa area.

Acting swiftly, a party of Police Station Gharota reached at the spot and seized approximately 12-14 quintals of Khair wood, he said, adding that the accused, however, managed to escape from the spot.

Following the seizure, the Khair wood was taken to the Police Station Gharota premises and the Forest Department was informed for further legal action in the matter, he said.
