Guwahati, 22 February (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging deep internal rifts within the opposition party in the state and claiming that senior leader Priyanka Gandhi had to stay awake till 3 am to settle disputes among party leaders.
Addressing the media after a key meeting of the BJP’s Election Management Committee at the party’s state headquarters, Sarma said it was unfortunate that Priyanka Gandhi had to visit Assam to resolve infighting within the Congress. He remarked that the internal conflicts within the opposition camp were “painful” and centered around certain minority-dominated constituencies.
The Chief Minister further alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was engaged in activities that bring embarrassment to India at national and international levels. Reacting to the recent controversy at the AI Summit, Sarma claimed that the protest carried out by Congress workers was done at Rahul Gandhi’s direction and described the incident as a “disgraceful act.”
He also asserted that there was no internal conflict among opposition parties over seats in Upper Assam, adding that the disputes were limited to specific pockets.
The Chief Minister made these remarks following the core committee meeting of the BJP’s election management team held at the state party headquarters in Guwahati, where several key organisational and electoral strategies were discussed.----------
